Privacy Policy
The short version
- We collect what Condor needs to work: your account, golf profile, rounds and the content you share.
- Your location is used on your phone for distances. We only store it when you use shot tracking.
- No ads, no selling your data, and no third-party analytics or tracking.
- You can delete your account and data from inside the app at any time.
1. Who we are
Condor is a golf app operated by James Asherson, an individual based in South Africa ("we", "us"). We are the responsible party for your personal information under the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA) and, for users in the European Union or United Kingdom, the controller under the GDPR.
Questions about this policy or your data: support@getcondor.app.
2. Information we collect
| What | Details | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Account | Email address and password (stored encrypted by our sign-in provider), or the identifier, name and email Apple or Google share if you sign in with them. | To create your account and keep it secure. |
| Profile | Name, username, profile photo, handicap index, home course, bio, and your answers during setup (experience level, goals, how you heard about Condor). | To show your profile to other golfers and tailor the app to you. |
| Golf activity | Rounds, hole-by-hole scores and stats (putts, fairways, greens, sand shots, penalties), courses, game formats, clubs, and the trips and tournaments you create or join. Also the names and handicaps of playing partners you add to a round. | To score your rounds, calculate your handicap and stats, and run events. |
| Location | Your device's precise location, only while Condor is open on a screen that needs it (hole maps, the rangefinder and shot tracking). If you track a shot, its start and end points are saved. | To show distances and measure shots. |
| Photos and posts | Photos you attach to round posts or your profile, captions, comments and likes. Condor only opens your camera or photo library when you choose a photo. | To share rounds with your friends. |
| Friends and notifications | Friend requests, friendships and the notifications we send you. | To connect you with other golfers. |
| Course suggestions | Course name, location and notes you send us. | To add courses to Condor. |
| Device and technical data | A push notification token if you allow notifications, and technical data our providers log when your device connects, such as IP address, device type and times of access. | To deliver notifications and keep the service running securely. |
| Support | Emails you send us. | To help you. |
Condor does not show ads, does not sell or rent your personal information, does not use third-party analytics or advertising SDKs, and does not track you across other companies' apps or websites.
3. Location
Condor asks for location permission "while using the app". It never tracks you in the background. Distances are calculated on your phone and your live location is not sent to our servers. The exception is shot tracking: when you track a shot, its start and end points are saved to your account so you can see your shot history. You can turn location off at any time in your phone's settings; scoring still works without it.
4. How we use your information
- To provide Condor: scoring, distances, handicaps, stats, friends, posts and events.
- To store your rounds on your phone and sync them to your account, including when you score offline.
- To send push notifications you've allowed, such as friend requests and comments.
- To send account emails, such as email confirmation and password resets, and important notices about the service.
- To keep Condor secure, prevent abuse and enforce our Terms of Use.
- To understand, in aggregate, how Condor is used so we can improve it.
- To meet our legal obligations.
For GDPR purposes, we rely on: performing our contract with you (running the app you signed up for); our legitimate interests (security, preventing abuse and improving Condor); your consent (location, photos and notifications, which you can withdraw in your phone's settings); and legal obligations.
5. Who can see your information
- Everyone signed in to Condor can see your profile: name, username, profile photo, handicap index, home course and bio. This is how friends find you.
- Your friends can see rounds you share as posts, with their photos, captions, comments and likes.
- Members of a trip or tournament you join can see your name, handicap and scores in that event, including on leaderboards.
- Players in a round with you can see that round.
- Rounds you don't post and that aren't part of an event, your shot tracking and your setup answers are visible only to you.
6. Service providers
We use these companies to run Condor. They process information on our behalf and only as needed to provide their service.
| Provider | What they do |
|---|---|
| Supabase | Database, sign-in and file storage. Data is stored in Ireland (EU). |
| PowerSync (JourneyApps) | Syncs your data between your phone and your account so scoring works offline. Hosted in the EU. |
| Resend | Sends account emails such as confirmations and password resets. |
| Expo, Apple and Google | Deliver push notifications to your device. |
| Apple and Google | Sign-in, if you choose Sign in with Apple or Google. |
| Mapbox | Map software used to display hole maps. It may receive technical and usage data from your device while a map is open. |
| Esri | Satellite imagery. Your device requests imagery for the area shown on the map. |
| Cloudflare | Hosts this website and forwards emails sent to support@getcondor.app. |
We may also disclose information if required by law, to protect the rights, safety or property of our users or others, or as part of a transfer of Condor to a new owner, who would be bound by this policy.
7. International transfers
Your data is stored in the European Union (Ireland), and some providers may process it in other countries, including the United States. We use providers that protect personal information to a standard comparable to POPIA and the GDPR, through adequacy decisions or standard contractual clauses in their terms.
8. How long we keep it
We keep your information for as long as you have a Condor account. When you delete your account (Settings → Account → Delete Account), we delete your profile, rounds, scores, shots, posts, photos, comments, likes, friendships and the rest of the data linked to your account. Copies may remain in our providers' encrypted backups for a short period before being overwritten.
Names you appear under in other people's rounds (for example, if a friend added you as a guest player by typing your name) are part of their round and stay with it. Support emails are kept for as long as needed to help you.
9. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you have the right to:
- access the personal information we hold about you, and get a copy of it;
- correct it, most of which you can do yourself in the app;
- delete it, which you can do in the app or by emailing us;
- object to or restrict how we use it;
- withdraw consent, for example to location or notifications, in your phone's settings.
Email support@getcondor.app from the address on your account and we will respond within 30 days. If you're unhappy with how we handle your information, you can complain to the Information Regulator (South Africa) or, in the EU or UK, your local data protection authority.
10. Security
Data is encrypted in transit, passwords are stored encrypted, and database access rules limit each account to the data it is allowed to see. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information and will notify you and the regulator of a breach where the law requires.
11. Children
Condor is not directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their information. If you're under 18, please use Condor with a parent's or guardian's permission. If you believe a child has given us personal information, contact us and we'll delete it.
12. Changes to this policy
We will update this page when our practices change and update the date at the top. For significant changes we'll also let you know in the app or by email.
